Hello to All my Favorite Beat Buddies...(Insert name here............;You know who you are,)
I know, I'm jumping the gun, but only a bit. 'Cause Gay Pride weekend is now only a few weeks away. The hype has already started about all the parties, and picnics, and parades that accompany the event; and it's got me all fuzzy with anticipation. BOING, good times. Someone actually came up to me recently and thanked me for being such an 'integral' part of the local gay (Fort Lauderdale) community. And, that got me to thinking about just how much fun it Is to be a part(y) in this community. It seems that every year, there are a Lot of events surrounding the Pride weekend. This year is no different. I already have a short list of 'must do's' and need to 'BE at's.' This will also be the first year in South Florida that they will hold the parade at night. Which will be a huge relief to us all, not having to brave the 100 degree heat as in years past. You might not know it, but, I'm a home grown white boy from the south, and all that night living has cut into my beach time. It's all good, I like it that way. So, where Ever you happen to BE during this Pride season, I encourage you to take part in some of the things that happen in your area. Get Out, Be seen, Be Had, Get Had!! Let's All give 'em something to talk about. And Please, Dress for all occasions. Leave the fuzzy house slippers, and "shower" shoes under the bed. The paparazzi (and probably Channel 7,) Will be out in force and you don't want to be in the rags unless you are Fierce.
Speaking of Fiercness....On to some fierce Music. Lately, on some different blogs, there has been a lot of talk, some of it from me....about music. Some bloggers have got me going about "Playing out of the box." Can you imagine, Me, playing "out of the box?" (snicker) Well, That to me, would be mixing it up, and not the 'same 'ol, Same 'ol.' Pulling out some of the different mixes of the big songs that are out right now. Putting them together with songs that take them somewhere else, context wise. (example. circuit vs latin vs electro vs deep) Playing out of the Usual "Style" that one might normally get tagged for. So on this night, I tried to "Do" as I preach. This set is one of Those sets. In listening back over the night....the beginning of this one, starts out with a few "requests," but it just got Dirty after that....just the way I like it. And it sorta set the tone of how the rest of the night came out. Now, I don't need to tell you. It will be different the next time, same bag, same CD's, just comes out in a new order. And, don't get nervous now. You know, that I know, how to ride a crowd, and I Do! And I will, beat them, when it's necessary. And Did! So, breathe deep, like you're going to jump over the edge....and Go with the flow of it. Feel the hi-hats in your hips...and ..."Get chur Cha Cha ON! "
OH, and Play it Loud! It was loud when you heard it in the club. (and the System sounds Good right now) So, Turn up the bass! Have a cocktail! Throw some baby powder on the floor! Get out the fans and flags! Throw it around like no one is watching! And next time, when you see me in the booth.....Stop by and say high. (or whisper something dirty in my ear, you know, for inspiration...(w)

In the last two podcasts....which were the middle three hours of the night...of the wHole night....the parts when the crowd packed IT in....and rubbed IT....(and let me just tell you ....they rub IT)...and these are the parts when the CockTails are flowin'....and you Know what They can do...the parts when the crowd is ScREaming for IT....did you Hear IT....did you...."Feel" IT....??? I did. So, I can only Hope....that you were able to get through my "Peakness" on this night....presented as it were.
I have said it ova and ova to you..."You have got to know what down is...to know what Up is."....so you now Need to hear just how it was that I got them to that point ....the beginning of the night. The part of the night that I build them UP to the point where they come by the booth to leave their T-shirts (and pants...yes, what these boys won't do for a simple request....no Wonder I play them with glee.) It's a Gift. Several drinks and shots later....and all the way to the End of the night....when I let them down with a song....something to "Ease" them Out the door. Singing a melody...with a hug.
So Here, my little Beat Bunnies....here is the Beginning....And the End of the night that ensued the middle. These are the parts of the "puzzle" that got them There...and Back. ...and Oh yes....They come Back. With lust and Love. I do have powers you know.
Meantime...Keep your heads to the sky. And stay tuned....you know I have a weekly internet radio show on G.I.R.L.
And Do stop by my booth and say high...I love peoples to stop by....for a chat/grope.

The beats are flying hot, fast and furious this season. And I, want to share a bunch of them with you. Ok, at least a set of them; ok, maybe two, OK, The whole night....the way we serve 'em up, down here in south Florida. Great place to BE from, Here. We get to have the Winter Music Conference in our back yard. A time when just about every person in the dance music industry is in Miami....and Every club is hosting a Major line-up of incredible DJs. So that every where you go, you can be sure that whoEver is at the decks, is going to... "Turn You Out." It's a very exciting time here and I highly recommend it if you are at all into Club Life. Try to make it to one. You'll most certainly be turned On to a style of music that you may not have thought that you'd like.
Now Hopefully, I can do the same thing for you. In this podcast I want to give you a taste of the Herbicidal, the way it comes out over the course of a whole night. This comes to you in four podcast installments...the whole night that is. From the beginning of the night when I walk in to set up and play the first hour or so to anywhere from 5 to 10 people; all the way to the end of the night. Closing is at 3AM, in this case the last song (Beatles) was played at 3:30 to a room still full of whistling and screaming (I love when they do that) cowboys. Hey, it was the weekend of the Gay Rodeo. YeeHaa!!! And...throughout the night....there were a Few "Requests" (perish the thought and usually a DJ's worst nightmare, but as I say, IF I have them in the bag, and it works, I'll play 'em.) And; they offered to take clothes off if I did, What would You Do? (sly)
You'll have to PLAY IT LOUD. That's the way you heard it...That's the way it should BE. Oh, and have a favorite beverage; You were cocktailed Then, so, get a bizz-buzz-on as you Go with me. (snicker). Oh, and this sound did, but may not come with a room full of rubbin' ONIT sexy crowd, you'll have to get your own, Now, I Know, You want it All, All the time... the way I like it, More More More is My motto. But, because I know most of you hear me from Peak hour to close....I'm going to "Give" you the night that way, in two segments.....Peak night (the middle two sets) and then Parts one and four, (beginning and closing, so you can see how I got you there.) And, I Know most of you want it that way anyway. So These first two sets, Start at about an hour thirty into my night....right when the crowd starts to pack it in. This is my Peak night. Wicked energy and sexiness. Listen to the lyrics, DEF some of my Fave tracks at the moment, last song on part two (Ralph Falcon w/The Weather Girls) will Break you.
So there you have it. I'm not a man versed in the ways of script...as much as I am a man of passion. Passion for music. Lots of vocals with uplifting messages to tell you stories of love. Well sometimes stories of sexiness, but love none the less. And in my DJ mind....I'm about intelligent programming.., Could be the drums or a horn or bass line that determines the next choon. I play to the highest common denominator, I give my audience credit for being informed listeners, as they listen on the internet, and they are constantly exposed to world class DJs. I try to bring them new songs before they are heard in the top 20. I try to expose them to new beats and styles of music. I Love digging my extensive vinyl collection and tossing them a classic, or remake of one, every so often. I push the limits and the energy. I don't cross-fade, I like to use isolators to blend the mix out. I like to think on my feet, meaning I don't play songs in the same order, ever, so the mix / flow is different every time. I may try three or more songs before I decide to throw it in. (in this case I only have two CD sources to mix with).
Hope you enjoy this "Trip", and that this catches you up on what's bumpin' in my world. And as my good friend, Robbie Leslie, always says....."Never underestimate the Power of Music." I love it, and hope you Feel IT. If, I am ever in the booth and you're in the room.....please stop by and say hi.

Herbie here....checkin' in and trying to keep you up to date as to how it's coming out these days. I'm in the clubs constantly....I spin music two nights a week (and on the occasion, Three)....every week. Then that music translates down into a twice weekly internet Radio Show on GIRL (www.gayinternetradiolive.com), So, let's face it....out of 10 plus hours of spinning a week....I can only "Post" a small portion of all the music that is played. Not that I wouldn't want to share ALL of it with you....I just wouldn't want to put that burden on you of having to listen to that much "Herbicidal" madnesses. SO....That's why I only post bits and "Taste's" of the night’s musical journey. Annnnnd.....from week to week....I just Can't play the same music over and over....as much as I'd like to play it All....it's just Not gonna happen. Whew....all that being said....
Sometimes you just have to know the source.....and that includes the room that I play in twice a week. Holds about 300 people....and gets a Very sexy "rubbin' on it" crowd, Late, almost every night. At least when I'm playing. ;-) Now I know, and exxxspecially lately, that I've been called out, on playing a Lot of vocals....’cuz you know I like to "talk" to you. This particular night was the same....just with the vocals more, uh shall we say….Spread out.....with Lots of drums in between. And Lots of Dirty drums; make for a lot of dirty drum Sex. Just the way I like 'em. Dirty...huhhuh. So Iisten, and see if this set gets your juices flowing in more ways than one. As somebody came by the booth to tell me that night....."You've caused more than a Few divorces tonight." Hey, Don't blame me, I'm just the messenger of the beats. Y’all are the ones to take it upon yourselves to play nice with each other. Wagwagwagwagwag.

Vote For (the Sleazy side of) Me
Hey Hillary, and All my fave Fab Fans,It's getting to be That time of the year. An Election Year. (harumph) But this particular political pundit post....isn't about the government side.....it's about the "Sleazy" side. Yes....it's time for Fort Lauderdale's annual "Sleazy Awards."
The coveted Sleazies....that benefit local charities, are given out this year on March 10th at Bill's Filling Station in Wilton Manors. This years "Theme" is a "Sleazy Prom."....I can only imagine.??? This Is one of the most FUN "In the Biz" nights during the year. This is the 5th year anniversary...and every year the party just seems to get wilder and wilder....So....IF you live near enough to get there....I highly recommend it. And be sure and Dress for the theme....as a Lot of people "Get Into IT"...which makes it a very festive event....to say the least. Too much fun, indeed.
As you might imagine....I'm not in it to be voted Prom Queen. No, No, Noooo, No....I'm in the running...to be the "Sleaziest DJ". Now, I Thought, that everybody just Knew, that I was the Sleaziest. Hands down. But, since it's a vote...I'm going to ask you for yours. So take just a sleazy moment and Vote....for Me.
And btw....I just had a Wicked weekend set at the club....so I'm going to post a new podcast hopefully this week.

Journey to the End....

Hope you all had a fun and safe Superbowl weekend. I know there were several testosterone driven house parties. Lots of reasons to "drop the soap", as it were. You shoulda been there, is all I'm sayin'. But during one such "Driven" house party, I was persuaded, and inspired (Rrrrrrrrrough,) to post another recent set. Seems these sort of events have the power to make you do things, if you know what I mean. Or was it the FootBall game, Go team.
So, for This short set, keep in mind, this all happens at 2:45 AM; after a whole night of Beatdown, rubbin' on IT, nastiness; and getting close to having to throw them out to the curb. Now, if you've been there early, you know that I love to "Come Up"...and then, for close, I like to "Come Down". Ease them out the door, instead of kicking them out with a last Kick Beat. "Boom, tsst, boom tsst, boom tsst, Boom." No, no, no....I mean that just leaves 'em wanting More.....I like to send them home humming the last song, or floating on a string line instead of just a beat. And…I do it for myself too. Since I've been in the booth for hours mixing beats and keeping the energy up. At the end of the night, I've shot my music load, and now I want to be musically hugged. So from breakdown to breakdown....this night anyway....I end with a few of my favorite songs. This particular Shirley Bassey song is one of THE most beautiful love song lyrics of all time, and if you can’t Feel this one; we can’t talk. It’s like I tell 'em all the time, "You have to know what Down is, before you can know what Up is." I like it all.
All that said…I've always loved DJ's who give you "Journey". I Hope, that at the end of the day, I will be counted in Those ranks. Thanks again, So much, for listening. I hope the passion shines through all my ranting. ‘Till the next time....Spread the love, and Keep your head to the sky.

Hello There Universe....and all youz toe-tappin', finger snappin', head bobbin', beat freaks,
I realize that it's been Way too long since you've heard word, or podcast from me. As a Lot has been going on in my life. I have been, and Am, a Very busy boy. Trust me, I'm not bored. There are some really wonderful things happening. More news as it does. And....I AM Truly blessed with having some of the best people in my life. Seems people that love music are a great place to start. Then from there, you get to meet the most grounded, talented, and connected ones to work with...and voila...Life's good. Thanks for being one of them.
Now, I realize that those of you who don't get to the club to hear me spin week to week....miss out on a whole Lot of music....as there is no Way to post it all. Much less, give you the Herbicidal "Journey" as it comes out over the period of an entire night. So, you'll just have to use this venue, as it were, to "taste" the best of. So, from post to post, I intend to try to give you some of the different "Flavors" of the night as they come out. Sometimes it might be peak night, sometimes it might be the "come down" that is the end of the night. "I like it all."
On another note, IF, you want More. I have a weekly internet Radio show twice a week....on www.gayinternetradiolive.com. It runs every Tuesday AM from 1am to 3am....and every Friday PM from 11pm to 1am (Eastern Time) That way you get a two hour sneak peak of how it comes out, IN the club, week to week. Just in case you can't get enough. Or, for you promoters out there, it's a great way to see how it comes out Live. ( P.S. I never edit my sets, except to take out last call.)
I hope that you all had a magical holiday season, and a safe transition into 2008. If this year is anything like the last, we are all in for a "bumpy" ride. Promises to be quite interesting already. Now, I realize that those of you who don't get to the club to hear me spin week to week....miss out on a whole Lot of music....as there is no Way to post it all. Much less, give you the Herbicidal "Journey" as it comes out over the period of an entire night. So, you'll just have to use this venue, as it were, to "taste" the best of. So, from post to post, I intend to try to give you some of the different "Flavors" of the night as they come out. Sometimes it might be peak night, sometimes it might be the "come down" that is the end of the night. "I like it all."
On another note, IF, you want More. I have a weekly internet Radio show twice a week....on www.gayinternetradiolive.com. It runs every Tuesday AM from 1am to 3am....and every Friday PM from 11pm to 1am (Eastern Time) That way you get a two hour sneak peak of how it comes out, IN the club, week to week. Just in case you can't get enough. Or, for you promoters out there, it's a great way to see how it comes out Live. ( P.S. I never edit my sets, except to take out last call.)
I hope that you all had a magical holiday season, and a safe transition into 2008. If this year is anything like the last, we are all in for a "bumpy" ride. Promises to be quite interesting already. IT was Fab!!!!!!!!!
Helloooo there, Universe,
Thanksgiving has come and gone....and God Knows....I AM thankful. Everyday, I give it up. To the higher power...to my family...to my fans...to my friends...I even ask that it shows in my face and actions. But this past Thanksgiving was Very special. I was asked to spin at the Muscle Beach party during White Party week on Miami Beach. Boing. Little did I know that the day would turn out as it did. LEGENDARY! We had taken a hotel room on the beach for three days...so we didn't have to deal with travel and could just enjoy being there. The weather couldn't have been more perfect for the entire weekend. And Care Resource reported that they had record crowds at every event. VIP tickets sold Out the opening day.
The Vizcaya White Party turned out to be The most incredible Vizcaya event I have ever been to.
We had breakfast and were early to the beach to the sound of the Atlantic ocean...which brought me Right to where I needed to be.
Turns out I knew the guys setting up the sound system....and they 'Hooked It Up" with a Wicked DJ booth and sound system. Can't ask for better....thank you Brian. So the day began without a hitch. Like I said the weather was perfect all day...ending with a Full Moon Rising on the ocean...to Fireworks. My set was from 1pm, when they opened the gates, to 3pm. Three songs into my set the flood gates opened.
To tell it in the words of a friend of mine....who had arrived early across the street from the beach at the Palace Bar. He said he was going to stop in there for a few beers to get his groove on before coming over... He said he was sitting there watching the decorations blow in the breeze....and all of a sudden there was a sea of Men Flowing into the party....he said "F'' this, what are we doin' here, let's get over there. And they Did. The report is it was the fastest happening party ever seen for the beach. Maybe I do have powers. Peep the pics (www.herbiejames.com)...as you can witness the crowd I had just an hour into IT. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all BEing there. I had a Blast. The set turned out just as I wanted....energy correct. I left Roland with a Packed floor...so I did my job. Too much fun. Short but sweet...leave 'em Wanting More.

I'm Spinnin' tha Beach y'all....and They are Goin' to Talk.
Hellooooo there, Universe;I AM ....spinning the Beach y'all....and it's ON. I have, over my Infamous DJ career, been to, and danced at, a Lot of wonderful, over the top, parties and events. I'll tell you some of the, shall we say, juicy, incriminating stories, when we sit down together sometime. But, One of these parties always stands out in my mind, and is held close to my "party" heart. That being the party that is thrown On Miami Beach, during the White Party week of parties, the weekend (Sunday) after Thanksgiving every year. It's called the "Muscle Beach" party.
Now, Here's the Big scoop. I AM....the opening DJ for this years "Muscle Beach" party during White Party week on Miami Beach this year. How Great is That? Me, playing a party that I've always Loved. And, it's the opening slot, which is my Favorite thing in the world to do... to "Come Up." (before you get it in your head, coming up is not All I know how to do....I Will let you 'ave it, given the chance. but here, it's the up Journey.) Needless to say, I'm honored, humbled, and Very excited.
I begin the party at 1pm, and play until 3pm. I'll then turn the party over the my friend, Roland Belmares, yes the legend, and He will turn it Out until 8pm. I have been channeling this party, musically, since I found out that I would be playing it. I have put together a bag Full of beautiful Choons that I feel fit the beach. A "Saintly" combination of sexy down-tempo, to lush house, to hands in the air classic high energy. I plan to open with nothing but the sound of the Atlantic Ocean. And the only music that I have Planned for the progression of my set, are the two songs that I plan to open with. Intro to the day, if you will. To give you a chance to feel the space. A chance to take deep breathes, and to set the tone for what's to come. Think blue sky, major chord changes, positive uplifting vocals and hands in the air, ON the beach....served with loads of Universal Love that will surely stir the mixture of beats and hugs into, dare I say it again, one of the best parties of this year. So, You'll Need to BE there, song one, and we'll take it from there. I Will be "talking" to you, through the lyrics, with every song, from beginning to end....so pay attention. Smile with me. Love with me. Dance with me.
Let's talk about location. Lawd! It's Miami Beach, at 12th Street. And the staging Will be stellar, as it always is. I can just see the layout of the party before me now. "The Land Before Time" it's called this year. And trust me, it's going to be Beautiful. As this year, Johnny Chisholm, as in the famed Gay Disney, is in charge of the event. So I expect that he'll "give it" with the perfect amount of sparkle, to bring this years event to a whole new level of Beach-party-dom.
The entire production is a benefit for Care Resource. They provide care and services for those who are Living with AIDS. I don't think there could be a more noble cause to spend a beautiful day, dancing under a Miami Beach sky, with several Thousand, Sexy, Thriving on it, people...with Great music and Vibe du Jour. Let's just say...People are going to talk.
All that being said...I can't wait to have my moment in the sun, (big smile). So, if you're anywhere close, and can get to it...Do what ever you have to do, to BE there. We all say we love music, what Ever that music is....it's with us every day of our lives. We make friends with it. We listen to the things it tells us....the feelings it has. Are you "feelin' me"? Music also has a time. Not just a tempo or a meter....but a time when we need it. We may need it when we want to be soothed, as in ambient or classical music, or....when we want to be beat down, as in lots of club music....you know who you are.
House music, to me, is a message. It's why we (and I say We, because I mean "I") want to hear it at "T" dance, the beach, the pool, the restaurant, the mall, the car....the RADIO! Does Anybody Hear me out there? It just feels Good. And, believe me, the energy is there. Cause if you have ever been to a fierce Winter Music Conference party (the Soulfuric "Friends" party for instance) featuring a competent House DJ line-up....then you've witnessed the masses of hands in the air with smiling faces singing the lyrics and screaming when every song starts, to a room full of love that this music gives. Are you listening yet?

Great Big Partys... you know we love them.
Over the years....as a DJ....I've been very privileged to play some incredible parties. Along the way, the music has evolved, along with the vibe. I've played a lot of music along the way. I've met some wonderful people, and I've danced to a lot of great DJs at these great parties. The best of them have been the sexy beach parties thrown during the "Winter" and "White" Party weeks on Miami Beach.
Since we all love a great Big party...and seeing as how I'm telling you how wonderful the beach parties are...let me give you the Big scoop. I AM the opening set DJ for this years "Muscle Beach" party during White Party week on Miami Beach this year. How great is That? Me, playing a party that I've always Loved. Needless to say, I'm honored, humbled, and Very excited. And, it's the opening slot, which is my Favorite thing in the world to do... to "Come Up."
Because I love to come Up. The music will be themed to the Beach. Think daylight, Major chord changes, positive, uplifting vocals....and loads of universal love to stir the mixture of beats and hugs into, dare I say it again, one of the best parties of the year.

Listen up....Spinning over the last few, not gonna say how many, years.. I've played a few different styles of music. But, it seems lately, that my DJ "Style," is somewhere between happy, uplifting, vocal house and funky, deep, electro, rub on it, sexy beats...(hehe, how's that for a concise description?) Chalk it up to having so many Good people around me, and feeling so much positive feedback and love. So it Must be a good thing.
So, This set is again, from the beginning of the night. Planned that way because I've been spinning some really beautiful lyrics, and wanted You to hear them. I always feel that the first song sets the tone of the night and the rest of the set just flows from there. Listen to what the lyrics tell you. I'm always talking to my room.
Now, That said, keep in mind that this set is just the first hour, twenty of the "Journey" that a whole night allows, and that I like All kinds of beats, and ALL kinds of crowds, and that means all kinds of "Journeys"...as long as they "Do" something, or serve a purpose to get you somewhere (requests included.) Even the musical style will change during the night, from vocal house, to sexy tribalness and progressive house, and does...every night I'm at the knobs (I like mixers with knobs and isolators).

Herbie Goes Broadband
Helloooo Universe,It is with Great pleasure....that I announce to you....my NEW Internet Radio show, starting June 12th 2007. It will be a regular feature on G.I.R.L. , That's, Gay Internet Radio Live .com. (Just Google GIRL radio). If you haven't heard, It's the biggest gay radio going, with over one million hits a month. And, I'll be in some Stellar DJ company....(Randy Bettis, Joe Gauthreaux, Eddie Baez, Lydia Prim, DJ Pride, Jason Jensen, Reed McGowan, Peter Rauhofer) to name the short list. So to say the least, I'm very excited, and honored to be the line-up. Can't you just feel my tail waggin'....wagwagwagwagwag.
My show will be every Tuesday, from 1 AM - 3 AM, and Friday, from 11 PM - 1 AM. Those are EST times, so calculate your time zone accordingly.

VooDoo got Cowboy'd

Hello, all my Bouncin' Beat Buddies,
It was with Great pleasure, this Sunday, not long ago, that I was the feature DJ at the Voodoo Lounge and serving it up for Babylon T Dance. I remember it well....it was the weekend of Florida's Gay Rodeo...and What a weekend. As I also spin every Thursday and Friday night....and this time of year here is Peak, High Season for tourists...And Gay Rodeo....so that everywhere we went....the bars were literally packed with cowboys...including where I am....so I Knew that Voodoo would be rocked....It was. (Mark it on your calendar for next year, the Rodeo is a HOOT)
I start at 4pm and on that day....as I was loading In...the fans were already pulling up by the car loads to hear how I come up...ok, prolly for the free drinks...(glance) Let me say here....I AM blessed with a Great, dedicated, sexy, music loving fan base. Mad respect goes out to each and every one of them. For enduring some of my "Journey's," Thank You.
This set, is the second set of the night....I call it a set, I record the entire night, but have to cut it up into CD length sets, about an hour - twenty minuets. So by this "Set" (beginning around 5:30)...I already had a dancefloor...which I kept, thank you Very much, till they put the sofas on the floor for the drag show at 11...and was well on the way to being a packed room....including Cowboys....which stayed with me right to the end of my set for the night....7 hours. Seems like it would be a long night, seven hours...but that DJ booth is So much fun to spin....so comfortable with great equipment and monitors....that the night seems to be over almost as fast as it starts. (Great side note)...A good friend, and fan, came up to the booth around 9pm(ish)...and said..."Herbie there is nobody on the patio Or the back (Latin) room...they are All on the dancefloor"....big smile, it was true.
Great energy all night long. So here...you have a "Taste" of how we serve up T dance, Herbicidal style. I mix up the beats....I talk to the crowd with the song lyrics..."You want to Touch Me"....(so subliminally, they talk to each other)...I throw in the obligatory Anthems....too many to play in one night, mind you....I give them anthems with a Twist....I Always keep the door to the booth Open...as I Love when people stop by to talk and grope....and it All feeds my energy ....so that I have Loads to Give back. So there you 'ave it. I Hope you "Feel IT".....Like I did. And I Hope that I get to "give It" on a floor near You...Very soon.
Till then....Keep your heads to the sky....Spread some Love, 'cuz that's how you Get Some....Lovin'.

Though This year...the Voodoo Lounge is going to install a new ride...just for all you dancefloor cowboys. It's the wild, spin you right round like a record, Voodoo Vocal Anthem Rodeo Ride. “It was a dark, and stormy night”…(hey, it was)... and as I left the house, for the club that night…. The Hounds were barking...like MAD dogs, I tell you…Howling....I tell you the truth...It was in the air, I could Feel It.... and once again, I suppose that you Should have been there, as there really Is no way, for me to give you the full, 3D “grope around.” But; Picture This…and fast forward to the end of the night…(deleting, of course, the lurid and incriminating, E! True Hollywood story, Facts).
For Real...the bar closes at 3:00am…. and at 3:40, and after a wicked "come down set", they Made me turn the music OFF…. (for lights up)…. to a full room, of HALF NEKID, rubbin’ on it, right down to the very last beat, didn’t want to leave....Crowd. Now, I think, it had Something to do with the music. Ok, probably had to do with Cock-Tailed Barking Dogs....(snicker)...but there were some that said that the night sounded like I was playing for myself….and that the flow just “Flowed”. Ok, Maybe they had a bit too much to drink…(re:snick). But now, listening back; I might just agree with them, it just Feels Good. (Hey, Don’t fight the feeling)
Now, I do tell people, All the time….that what I do; is a Gift from God…(and What a Gift... “Music”)….and I truly, Truly believe that….as, I’ve been a musician (piano) all my life….and believe me, I’ve turned it All over to the universe, Many times….releasing my control….and basically asking God to pull my records….to give it FLOW....EDGE….SEX….LOVE….and turns out….IT HAPPENS! (every time). Just listen to my lyric choices.
On That note….Please, take time to listen to the words…and Hear, what the songs are Saying to you. Cuz’ I preach it. I Sex it. I nudge it, so that even if you’re in the room; and not consciously paying attention….you will Still be “Attracted” (subliminally), Completely unconscious, as to why you haven’t been able to leave…or that all those different beats that you don’t Recognize…. as “hit songs”… are seducing you; Back to the bar; for Just One More. One more walk around the “Walk of Shame” (the bar)…hehehe…(I Do have powers, you know).
All that in mind….(as I; sit here; listening again to the night…and feeing it)….consider this…These; are the songs you will be hearing for months to come. These; are some of MY faves….New twists on the theme….They may Not always be (insert your favorite Style of dance music here___)…and they may not even be your fave recognizable “Choons”….But know this….(and this is one of the things I love Most about Winter Music Conference in Miami, is)…That I AM, competent and in control….I do my homework….I “read” my crowd….and I have a bag Full of Fierceness to work You….and I AM; going to “Let You ‘Ave IT”…the BEST way I know How….Where Ever, and What Ever, that IS.
So my 4/4 buddy…for this podcast…I’m giving you the two Peak night sets from last Friday…sometime around 11:30 to 2:30. ( So that some night, when you want to get your groove on, Before you get on your way out the door for another, Hot night at the club….or; maybe just when you need to get a little “Herbicidal” (Tailwaggin’…. wagwagwagwag)….‘cause it's why I’m here....to make Sure that...You get Some…of What You Need!

Ok all you Beat Bunnies....I'm going to step Out of the box here...and say that Techno, is Back. (Flashbacks of early 1990's) In a Way of it's own as only techno ever was. I for one, thought that it would be a scourge on the music world if it ever did come back...But, Now that I'm once again seduced by how the songs just take your butt by both hands and shake it back and forth....I'm Hooked. The crowd loves it....so it's part of my peak night, every night. This just happens to be a whole set OF IT. So put the babies to bed before you peep this one...get into your Own, self prescribed, Space...Open your mind a little bit...because you Will be rocked, with at least, Some of these choons.
Annnnnnd.....Jumpin' Jumpin' Jumpin'.....and Tail Wagwagwagwaggin'....This set is the stuff that makes it happen to Me. Ok, it helps when a superstar DJ shows up in my booth for a surprise visit. This particular night, the crowd was crazy and screaming to begin with...but I turn around and Danny Tenaglia is standing in the booth. (got pics) You Know I Had to turn it up a notch....and although I think he'd already left the club by this part of the night....the club was off the hook...to say the least. I've been onto the electro house tip for a year or so.....and have wanted to post a set of it, but this past week was the night it came out like This. Wild stuff I tell you...Just the way we like it.
So just listen and see if you can't see the similarities to any of your fave old school techno classics that I know you still love. Get back to me and let me know where you head is at on this...I'm curious to hear. Meantime, I hope to see you in the clubs soon. Be sure to stop by the booth and say hi. Now, I've said before that when I am getting ready to go spin at the club.....I try to Always stop by the famed 'Wall O' Vinyl' and pull out a "Classic", or two, or three....to inspire me to higher and greater things....you know....MUSIC. Well this set is what came out from doing just that last week. Yet another fun note of fact....is...as I've said before....I'm inspired by various DJ's...one great contemporary being Danny Tenaglia. I've always "Felt" him....from afar I might add. So....the First track I pulled (Dajae "You Got Me Up") and the Last (D.T. "Bottom Heavy") are mixes of, or by him.
AHHHHHHHH....and Trumpets....and Choirs...and Light Shines bright as Doors Open.....(hehe.)
This time, upon listening to the mix a couple of times, I thought...I love the songs... the set is cohesive....and bears multiple listenings. It's got some Great classic songs, and some Wicked new ones. Signs of what I Call....a decent mix indeed. Know this too. Anytime I play music from the DJ booth...I'm "Talking" to my crowd. LISTEN. It's Songs...WITH Words. They have something to Say to you. So pay attention. I Love songs about Love, Uplifting, positive "Message" songs, and also Dirty, rub on it songs And beats. Every song, doesn't have lyrics...alas...Songs Without words...and They are there, to trancend you to the Next lyric...the Next level....Higher and higher...or Deeper and darker. There IS a method to my Madness...so I keep telling myself. Over and Over. Much like the 4/4 shuffle that moves me to do it. Wagwagwagwagwag.

Do ya "feel" me? I hope and pray that somebody....somewhere....Soon...will...and then....Watch out.

Herbicidal Beatdown Chart du jour
This goes out to all you turntable trainspotters and track list collectors. It's time for a fresh chart. I love them. They give me a chance to share with my peoples who really Love the music, the music that I love. Love it enough to go out for themselves and search it out...and then Buy it. You know who you are, and I love you too.
Charts are hard because they are really only a skim off the top of what's working my main nerve at the moment. I Want to include all styles of music too....again...that's hard because I can't play it all in a night, or at most clubs. So here's a nice view of what's hot in my "Dance" box right Now. I also encourage you to go back and check out my past charts as there are a Lot of great songs that Stay in the box, and get played recurrently. Whatever your sources are, and there are some really good online music stores for downloading, that aren't mainstream....such as Beatport, Juno, Traxsource, to name a coupla faves. Goes ON Gets OFF - Peak night Herbicidal Nastiness

I have been beat UP lately, with requests for one of my late night, big room ,dark 'n sexy, hands all over you, rub on it, sets. I've recorded several along the way....but they just never got to what I call, Podcast quality. I've said it before ...I like to play to my crowd, which always includes classics, and hits...but...when it comes to podcasts.... I want what I post, to sound a little more, shall we say, Timeless....So, I don't want to have them include the more big room, Anthem, top forty hits. Got me? So....This set happened this past Friday night...and yes...They, were rubbin' it....and grindin' it....and bobbin' it...and probably later, Strokin' IT. What we like to call....Cocktailed, Bumped, Groped and Beat...the Herbicidal way.
I call the set, "Goes ON, Gets OFF". It's taken from Peak night, till around 2:30ish. (we close at 3am) Packed club. It felt So Gooood. And, here ya go....some of my fave, drummy, dubby, beaty, tweaky, tribal nastinesses. I hope it makes Your tail wag.....Mine sure was...wagwagwagwag.
Hope I'm spinning a club near You soon....so that you'll be able to get the full, "All Herbie All the Time" effect. Tell somebody...let's work it out. Feeling You.

Happy New Year All You Dance Beat Freaks;
Thank You for making this great past year, one of the most exciting, creative, sexy and Fun filled years to date. And without going too deeply into the lurid, sordid, and somewhat incriminating details of 2006....let's just say that I learned a LOT...good stuff all around....Great, great year.
DJ wise, it wasn't a bad year at all. I still spin my weekly residence every Thursday and Friday night. I have turned out a wicked fun monthly for Gary Santis at either the Coliseum or VooDoo Lounge. I received the rock star treatment in Phoenix at the "Keeping the Desert Hot" party, and Rocked it. I got to spin for White Party, the Leather Mask Ball and, I was asked to be the first DJ to revive the Tribe of Man parties. Anytime you see Me in the booth....I'm there for You to get Your "Groove ON"...Anything I can do to help.
Getting on with 2007...let me just say up front...that I'd love to Podcast it all. It just can't happen....there's just too much music being played week to week. So, I'm going to try to focus you on the highlights as it were. This, being the first mix Up for the year....This is how I started the New Year....First set of the night....and what a Bang it was.

The Halls, WILL Be Decked....You bring tha Balls
Ho Ho, and More Ho,
Well,....you get the picture. I Hope you're all well, and "Feelin' IT"....the season of Love that is....Christmas and New Years....are always fun....what with all the getting together with friends and family. Who are we fooling.....It's the Parties....PARRRRTY, and then, some More Party....."Iiiiiiiii ,Can't Get Enough". Me...I've been a Very busy boy....spreading it thin and burning the candle at both ends....(3D picture go away). I love this time of year....it sorta grounds my head and gives me focus. Thus ...MORE Parties.
Now, If nightclubs could be on Santa's list....the Voodoo Lounge would be on the Naughty list....and I've seen it be very naughty....so This Sunday, Christmas Eve....Voodoo will be Spanked....the Herbicidal way...and with Love. That said...I'm Spinning the light Fantastic on Christmas Eve this year, at the Voodoo Lounge.
That's right folks...it's been One whole, Fantastic year...that I've been lucky, to spin for the legendary promoter, Gary Santis, for his Babylon T Dance, at the Voodoo. So This, being my 1 year anniversary....and Christmas eve, (Santi Claus cummin') ...well, let's just say....the Halls...Will be Decked. I'll bring the beats....You bring tha Balls. Put those elements together and, BOING....Wicked Party. I know, you'll all be waiting for the Big Man....you know how we love him. Tribe of Man....REVIVAL
Hey beat chasers,
This season is all about coming together. Spending time nurturing friendships with family and friends, as well as making new ones. Ok, it's about going to PARTIES. Dressing up sexy, and going to Parties. Lots of Parties. Party, Party, Party.
This Saturday, December 16th, I'm going to guest DJ for an event (PARTY) that is given by a group of MEN....known as, "Tribe of Man". Let me just say that these Men, have one Sexy mailing list....and I expect that the crowd that they will bring with them....will most definitely be, to say the least, Sexy... The party is called "REVIVAL". It's a fundraiser for GLBT Suicide Awareness Initiative, and it's at the Jackhammer, in Fort Lauderdale. Donation is $10. and the requested "attire" is LEATHER!!!!
So, let's recap...Packed nightclub....Full of MEN wrapped in Leather....Me rockin' the dancefloor Herbicidal....Sexiness all around....Annnd, it's for a good cause....Sounds like a Party....and THAT... is one of My Favorite Things. What Is Sleaze music anyway???

Ponder This...
There's been some very nice references made by some very nice people of late ....mostly relating to beautiful club experiences of years past....about how the music over the course of a night, sometimes longer.....drove emotions high, and low....about, how the music would energize, and sometimes, breakdown to allow you to breathe for a bit... slow you down just enough, so you could just, let, go....when you stopped thinking about hearing That song as your favorite.....and started "Hearing" the chord changes,
the breath in the melody line, the Bassline groove, or whatever else drives the drums.
So I'm guessin' some of this is because we just don't get the experience enough lately. I don't even get to play it enough....seems I have to beat the floor with drums most of the time....I'm easily distracted though, you know.....and I like me some hard too....but on This occasion....I, having all this talk about classic "Handwaver", "Saintly" music...dug on my "Wall 'O Vinyl" for more than a few of them ....and on this, Thursday of nights....and ok, I have to admit....After a mildly entertaining, local club "Contest", which ran late, to about 45 minutes before close, I decided to break out the Shirley Bassey, a la Propellerheads, and start the journey down to close.....it was fun....the people that were there, mostly Got it, the boss liked it because of the extra change.....and the crowd stayed till about 3:20. So after giving it a couple of sexy re-listens....I have to let this one go. I think that every track is a classic in it's own time...Some are brand new....some are old....but together....tempo and key match aside....the program blend makes them all work. Now I only wish I'd had more time ...to "Stretch out" even more. Next time will be different.....They all are.
Word of reassurance....Most of what I play is hard beated....Tribal, Electro, Italian, German, French, all over....so next p'cast will be Beat .....Trust me. Meantime...listen to this after you come home....not before you go out....Like I tell them.....You have to Know what Down is ...before you know what Up is. Keep your head to the sky...

You know where else I like...There's this club....it's down by the railroad tracks, on the Westside of downtown Fort Lauderdale....and it's called, the VooDoo Lounge....[ooga booga]...Now let me tell ya....as a DJ....this room rocks. All the right ingredients.... have been added together ...so when the crowd is " 'aving It"....the place goes Off. The sound is clean....means it's powered correctly....rrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrr....It's a Dancers club...they let you Dance on Everything....The flow around the room, the patio, the "Salsa" room....the "Lounge" is flawless....everything is a walkaround....so "Runway" is Given. But the best thing....about the "Lounge"....is the DJ booth....Best seat in the house...people flowing in front and coming In behind you.....The Best sound....nice monitors...but, you're standing in Front of, and on Top of, the house sound....."I make the beats go Boom papi"....and you're surRounded....by Sexy bodies flowing all around you with room in the booth for a couple of 'em to visit, which I love too. Hold on, it gets Better.....Turns out that this coming Sunday....the 22nd....that I....am going to be your DJ du jour....in the booth, fabuloso....but now... here's the hook. YOU ....have to be there too....because, if it's us together....each of us in his own little space....workin' it....rubbin' the friction between them....the dancers...the bartenders....the drag....The DJ....the "Lounge"....Voila....the Magic... and That will be talked about for years....ok, weeks, days, hours, but moments...to come. How I Come Up...

As I have said before....Lately...I Try to record everything....which also includes listening to it, which is a job in itself. Annnnnd...as I have said before....I don't post it all because it would just be redundant....week to week. Annnnnd....There are so many sets to listen to....A lot of them Just Don't Hit me enough to say....Oh ...I want to hear that again. Annnd....If you've been reading all along.....you might remember that I have listed a few DJs that have influenced the way that I play. One of those being DJ Buc from Atlanta.
I had known Buc from the day when he worked for Steve Burman at the record store....and when he would play "Sleaze'" morning parties for him....called "Clan of the Handwavers"....during a time when you could play for hours at BELOW 120 BPMs...and people would Dance to it.....can you imagine ....how times change. Annnnnd....if you remember....I have mentioned that I Love to "Come Up" at the beginning of the night....and don't always get the chance. On this particular night....I went in the club ....feeling in a particular Buc-ian mood....and though the BPMs aren't slow....I think the mood of the night was set by that feeling. It's a set that I find myself listening to over and over and therefore feel it Needs to be the podcast at this time.
Also....know that this set represents my love for great vocals....sexy poolside beats...and I could play like this, and have....for hours. It Can go even deeper....imagine.
On that note.....enjoy the set....let me know if you "Get It." As Herbie's world spins.....and he's spinning out of control..,,,,I was at "Homme" in Phoenix AZ last weekend....Turned OUT their T-Dance ....and I Have to say....They Loved me.....and Totally made me feel like a rock star....They had me Limo'd everywhere on Saturday night to promote....Had me wined and dined.....Had me a banner made ....which you will all be viewing ...and my new Phoenix "Peeps" were all Very friendly and had "loads" of nice things to say.
