Ponder This...

There's been some very nice references made by some very nice people of late ....mostly relating to beautiful club experiences of years past....about how the music over the course of a night, sometimes longer.....drove emotions high, and low....about, how the music would energize, and sometimes, breakdown to allow you to breathe for a bit... slow you down just enough, so you could just, let, go....when you stopped thinking about hearing That song as your favorite.....and started "Hearing" the chord changes,
the breath in the melody line, the Bassline groove, or whatever else drives the drums.

So I'm guessin' some of this is because we just don't get the experience enough lately. I don't even get to play it enough....seems I have to beat the floor with drums most of the time....I'm easily distracted though, you know.....and I like me some hard too....but on This occasion....I, having all this talk about classic "Handwaver", "Saintly" music...dug on my "Wall 'O Vinyl" for more than a few of them ....and on this, Thursday of nights....and ok, I have to admit....After a mildly entertaining, local club "Contest", which ran late, to about 45 minutes before close, I decided to break out the Shirley Bassey, a la Propellerheads, and start the journey down to close.....it was fun....the people that were there, mostly Got it, the boss liked it because of the extra change.....and the crowd stayed till about 3:20. So after giving it a couple of sexy re-listens....I have to let this one go. I think that every track is a classic in it's own time...Some are brand new....some are old....but together....tempo and key match aside....the program blend makes them all work. Now I only wish I'd had more time ...to "Stretch out" even more. Next time will be different.....They all are.

Word of reassurance....Most of what I play is hard beated....Tribal, Electro, Italian, German, French, all over....so next p'cast will be Beat .....Trust me. Meantime...listen to this after you come home....not before you go out....Like I tell them.....You have to Know what Down is ...before you know what Up is. Keep your head to the sky...

Glad to be here....it's where we are....it's a Very nice place to be....I lllllllike it. You know where else I like...There's this club....it's down by the railroad tracks, on the Westside of downtown Fort Lauderdale....and it's called, the VooDoo Lounge....[ooga booga]...Now let me tell ya....as a DJ....this room rocks. All the right ingredients.... have been added together ...so when the crowd is " 'aving It"....the place goes Off. The sound is clean....means it's powered correctly....rrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrr....It's a Dancers club...they let you Dance on Everything....The flow around the room, the patio, the "Salsa" room....the "Lounge" is flawless....everything is a walkaround....so "Runway" is Given. But the best thing....about the "Lounge"....is the DJ booth....Best seat in the house...people flowing in front and coming In behind you.....The Best sound....nice monitors...but, you're standing in Front of, and on Top of, the house sound....."I make the beats go Boom papi"....and you're surRounded....by Sexy bodies flowing all around you with room in the booth for a couple of 'em to visit, which I love too. Hold on, it gets Better.....Turns out that this coming Sunday....the 22nd....that I....am going to be your DJ du jour....in the booth, fabuloso....but now... here's the hook. YOU ....have to be there too....because, if it's us together....each of us in his own little space....workin' it....rubbin' the friction between them....the dancers...the bartenders....the drag....The DJ....the "Lounge"....Voila....the Magic... and That will be talked about for years....ok, weeks, days, hours, but moments...to come. [sly] But We were There....So This Sunday...my little Sexy 4/4 bunnies....Come out with me, to the VooDoo Lounge....and let's give 'em something to talk about....IT could, be scandalous....Hold, That thought.....Hope to see you and the "posse" on the Floor. As I have said before....Lately...I Try to record everything....which also includes listening to it, which is a job in itself. Annnnnd...as I have said before....I don't post it all because it would just be redundant....week to week. Annnnnd....There are so many sets to listen to....A lot of them Just Don't Hit me enough to say....Oh ...I want to hear that again. Annnd....If you've been reading all along.....you might remember that I have listed a few DJs that have influenced the way that I play. One of those being DJ Buc from Atlanta.

I had known Buc from the day when he worked for Steve Burman at the record store....and when he would play "Sleaze'" morning parties for him....called "Clan of the Handwavers"....during a time when you could play for hours at BELOW 120 BPMs...and people would Dance to it.....can you imagine ....how times change. Annnnnd....if you remember....I have mentioned that I Love to "Come Up" at the beginning of the night....and don't always get the chance. On this particular night....I went in the club ....feeling in a particular Buc-ian mood....and though the BPMs aren't slow....I think the mood of the night was set by that feeling. It's a set that I find myself listening to over and over and therefore feel it Needs to be the podcast at this time.

Also....know that this set represents my love for great vocals....sexy poolside beats...and I could play like this, and have....for hours. It Can go even deeper....imagine.

On that note.....enjoy the set....let me know if you "Get It." I hope you've been reading up in the rags...and keeping your ears to the street....the news is Out....that This Sunday at the Voodoo Lounge....Babylon T will host the Official Welcoming event for the Gay World Series 2006....some 25 Softball teams worth of Men and Women in town, as in from all over the country, for the weeks BIG.... Play-Off. If that word alone doesn't get you to come Out ....rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...Play-Off...I think that's what I'll call the CD.("Batter UP”, the video, out soon after).

Add to the sexiness of all That....I AM going to DJ the event....and let's just state here that....I'm a Baseball Fan....ok I like the pants....hehe...and the Men that play it....So to say the least...I'm inspired....and can't wait to bring the Full Moon Madness to the dance-floor....Boing....As always I've been doing my homework and have amassed some great new hottie hotties that I'm going to unleash on the beasts....Voodoo indeed. Over time.....I have prided myself....on having a broad taste in music....most of it from my piano background....so, can you imagine....that when I'm home...mostly....I listen to Music.Got to love it.....So....for the last hour...I've been mad glued to a performance of the Mostly Mozart Festival...live from Lincoln Center....an incredible Piano concerto....and of all things....Variations on Twinkle Twinkle Litte Star.....hehehe....It was incredible...So let me encourage you All ...to open your musical horizons Anytime you get the chance....and Particularly if you get a chance to see good Live music.

Here's a heads up for one such occasion....IF you live in the south Florida area.....on November 1st...is Chick Corea (piano) duet with Gary Burton (Vibes)....at the Broward center....Not to be missed...Trust me...and say hi if you run into us there.

So whatever your tastes...and since All music is related ....and exposure to other types of music will only serve to make you a better DJ, musician, listener, humanitarian....and as is the reason you all read my rants anyway.....we all love music that moves us....so don't be afraid if you find yourself moved by classical music....you may just be learning to breathe all over again....and then.. the next time you find yourself caught up in the endurance of a packed dance-floor....you just might find that the way you listen to what the DJ is giving you ...Moves you in ways it didn't before.

I got this great new toy...by Archos....it's actually a camcorder....but it allows me to record....in Waveform....all my sets....for me mostly to listen and see what stays and plays...or what gets pulled from the bag...so...when I post a set up for your listening approval...it's usually because I feel that it's a good representation of the way it's coming out....and also a set of tunes that you may not have heard to death....or that could turn out to be your new faves.....but; I always play for my crowd....so you will hear some "Big" records of the time....everything in it's place....sort of a trick I'm playin' on ya ....Yep...those are the hooks....the tools if you will....to get you to the Herbicidal ....BOING.

Now's when I invite all you 4/4 beasts to listen to My new set of late...It's definitely late night peak-time energy... This is the way it gets when they come by the booth and tell me it's Herbicidal.....when they tell me that they've been trying to leave the club....but haven't been able to reach the door....course I think it's just that by this time ....they are too hooked on the pheromone overload that is making Me give it to 'em this way in the first place.... wagwagwagwag.... Madonna And Pink LIVE (allegedly) at Babylon T This Sunday July 23rd

Yeah right....and I'm playing the Beach Party next year...but ...Now that I have your attention.....Herbicidal will pull all the punches to be Fierce.

As Herbie's world spins madly out of control....what with Pride and Twilo opening and all....and well, here you go....I actually DID call Madonna ....and I left a very nice message about how Much I would appreciate it if she would just come by Voodoo this Sunday during T-Dance for a look see....no pressure though...I mean she's already in town for her concert tour ...and I DO play her songs....>) She has a Really nice phone message, so I'm sure she's just as nice in person....and I told her she wouldn't have to pay the cover ..or for drinks....and I told her she could hang with me in the DJ booth....and that maybe, while she was there, that we could go over the lyrics of the new song I'm writing for her....Oh and I told her that you are all such big fans that you promised that you'd all be stomping the dance floor into powder, Hands to Heaven, All night long just waiting for the next chance to dance to her non-stop medley of hits. Legendary.

AND....IF That wasn't enough....PINK is in concert Monday night at Revolution...and I also called her (again leaving a Really, really nice message) and hinted that it would be nice if she came by to give away free tickets for the performance. Really. Now I'm not going to promise....but Maybe....If we can catch them both in a "mood"....then Maybe... Madonna ...and Pink....well you just use your imagination...>0...Scandal indeed.

I Put A Spell On Voodoo

EVERY TIME I walk into the Voodoo Lounge to DJ.....there is One song that comes to my mind. It's a blues standard of sorts.....called "I Put A Spell On You"....the original was done by Screamin' Jay Hawkins....I think my fave version is by the Creedence Clearwater Revival....great band back in the day.....>)....nonetheless....I sing it in my head ....Every Time Partly being to the notion that the club is called The Voodoo Lounge.....how New Orleans......hehehe.

Just a bit of trivia that might put You in a Spell.....At Voodoo.....as I Intend to put ON some Voodoo....and Cast My spell on the dance floor the only way that is Proper Herbicidal.

OK,....I can't tell a lie....This month, has been a Really uplifting spirit boost to my soul. Seems that the universe has surrounded me with some Very nice people....Some love me for different reasons .....but they Love me....>0....and They, in their own "universes"....are all very talented and creative people....and I Love them all....and Thank them from my heart. A Lot of nice things have been said....but as I've Finally seen in myself....As My heart shines.....it allows their's to shine too. Thanks for letting Herbie BE.

Meantime....I've also gotten to play at some of south Florida's most prestigious nightclubs....and if crowd reaction is gauge enough to go by....I think I may be able to get reprise appearance. Keep in mind....I resident DJ every week at one club, where I am able to get away with taking a few more "chances"....then, I find myself playing for a dance floor in these rooms with real sound....and it's a Very different animal....Rrrrrrrrrrrr.....and I find myself serving different energy....whether it be more vocals...more anthems....shorter mixes....pitching things up / down....mixing through the breakdowns...."Reading' the crowd.....whatever it is at the moment that works....it's the same music....out to you with a twist.....the Herbicidal Twist....>)

This set came out of me at the Voodoo Lounge....the night After I'd played the Coliseum....whew....y’all try to keep up ok...so this is day four.....tail still waggin' though....hehehe. So if you listen this set ....it's more "T-dance"....what EVER that means to you ....guess you'll Just have to Be there the next time....and see for yourself.

As I tell most people who come up to talk to me....The Music.....It's All good....it's Just how you get 'em there. Give 'em Something to talk about....it's Why I leave the house.

This "Peak night" set, was taken from the second night that I got to play the big room....and My tail is Still wagging.....wagwagwagwag....>) The night seems to have been a reasonable "Taste" as to "How I give it"....or at least what I think I would dance to in a big room; pulling choons from my crates at least. Drop a few Herbicidal Choice Classics for a dance floor Hug....give the predictable Anthem for pull....Try to keep things pitched up a notch or two for energy....and through the night, Try to win New fans to the Herbicidal Flava. I Think a packed dance floor till about 4am, could convince a fan or two to come back....>0

So, Here....for all you wonderful head bobbin', body groovin', (and Grindin'....>) Glitterati that came out to feel me....this sets for You. Also, for all you, who by distance, just couldn't fake the appearance....and the ones who Should've, but Didn't....This...is a "taste" of what they got at the Coliseum on a Very Full Moon night in Fort Lauderdale in May....Hope you'll be there the next time it happens...>) Till then.
